Fees & rates

The total cost is more than the transfer fee

A low advertised fee does not guarantee your university receives the full invoice. Compare quotes by the AUD ultimately credited.

Where a payment can lose value

Exchange-rate margin

A provider can build its margin into the conversion rate. It may not appear as a separate fee, but it changes how much AUD your payment buys.

Transfer or processing charge

The bank, card issuer or payment provider may charge a fixed amount or percentage. Check whether it is added to what you pay or deducted from the funds sent.

Intermediary deduction

An international bank wire can pass through correspondent banks. Their deductions may reduce the AUD that arrives even when your sending bank's fee looks small.

Compare quotes

Ask for one comparable number

For the same invoice and payment date, ask each provider what your university is expected to receive in AUD after all disclosed charges. Record the rate, any extra fee, whether third-party bank charges are included and the quote's expiry.

After payment

Reconcile against the invoice

Check the university credit in AUD. If it is short, compare your provider's breakdown with the receipt and ask the relevant provider or university team where the difference arose before sending a top-up.
